Kaliningrad is a very compact city: it takes half an hour to travel by bike from one end to another. Bicycle transport is one of the most promising areas for development in Kaliningrad, supported by the mild climate, a large share of active youth among the population, and proximity to the traditionally "cycling" cities of Europe. The Integrated Transport Infrastructure Development Programme for the City of Kaliningrad 2017-2035 provides for a layout of bike paths along highways with a total length of 157.8 km.
